Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Adds Dive Anywhere Mechanic and New Shipwrecks
Ubisoft Singapore has confirmed that the upcoming remake, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, will feature a completely unrestricted underwater exploration system. Unlike the 2013 original, which confined underwater segments to specific diving bell locations, the remake introduces a “dive anywhere” mechanic that lets players explore the ocean floor at will.
According to the game’s tech lead, the team has populated the expanded seabed with a significant number of new shipwrecks and hidden secrets. This new design is a major departure from the original game’s structure, aligning with the recently detailed seamless Caribbean map described in /news/2026-06-16-assassin-s-creed-black-flag-resynced-rebuilds-the-caribbean-as-a-seaml/.
Exploring the Caribbean Without Boundaries
In the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, underwater exploration was a self-contained activity. Players had to locate specific shipwreck icons on the map and deploy a diving bell to transition into a separate gameplay zone.
The remake dismantles these artificial walls. Players can drop anchor on the Jackdaw at any coordinate, leap into the water, and submerge. The transition between sailing, swimming, and diving is seamless, matching the modern capabilities of the Anvil engine.
To support this freedom, the developers have redesigned the ocean floor. The tech lead teased that the seabed is no longer just empty space between islands; it is now packed with unique underwater topographies, lost cargo, and previously unrecorded shipwrecks containing valuable upgrades for Edward Kenway’s equipment and ship.
Stealth and Survival in the Deep
Unrestricted diving also changes how players can approach naval encounters and stealth. In addition to hunting for treasure, players can reportedly use underwater trenches and seaweed beds to lose pursuing Spanish or British hunter ships, or to infiltrate hostile coastal forts from unexpected angles.
This update to underwater mobility pairs with other modern adjustments coming to the game. For details on how the developers are handling ground movement and combat mechanics, check out our coverage on /gameplay/stealth/ and /gameplay/combat/.
