⚓ Removed

  • All original 2013 code — Resynced is a full rebuild on the Anvil engine

  • Modern-day Abstergo Entertainment sections — replaced with narrative 'What if?' rifts
  • The ability to replay older completed missions

Why "Resynced"?

The name nods to the Animus: rather than simply up-rezzing old assets, Ubisoft re-synchronized the memory of Edward Kenway's life with modern technology. The result is a current-generation action-adventure that keeps what made the 2013 classic beloved — the ships, the shanties, the sun-soaked Caribbean — while modernizing nearly every system.

The biggest philosophical shift is the move away from RPG systems. There are no levels and no gear scores; your power comes from skill, tools and ship upgrades. Dig deeper into the reworked combat, stealth and naval systems, or meet the expanded cast.

Remake FAQ

Is Black Flag Resynced a remake or a remaster?

It's a full remake, not a remaster. Ubisoft rebuilt the entire game on the latest Anvil engine and states it contains zero code from the 2013 original.

Is the story the same as the original Black Flag?

The core story of Edward Kenway's journey returns, but it's expanded with new arcs for Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet and a brand-new Edward/Caroline scene. The modern-day sections are reimagined as 'What if?' rifts.

Do I need to have played the original?

No. Resynced is a complete, standalone experience — a great entry point whether you're returning or new to the Caribbean.
