Story & setting
Pirate republics, hidden ruins and a centuries-old war. A spoiler-light tour of the world you're sailing into.
The Golden Age of Piracy
Resynced returns to the early 18th-century Caribbean, when pirate crews carved out a brief, lawless freedom among the colonial powers. You play Edward Kenway, a Welsh privateer chasing one big score who stumbles into the shadow war between the Assassins and the Templars — and discovers it's far bigger than treasure.
Across Havana, Nassau, Kingston and dozens of islands and coves, you'll forge alliances with real historical pirates, hunt for legendary plunder, and chase a Templar secret hidden in the region's ancient ruins. Meet the key players on our characters page.
Expanded arcs & a new scene
The remake builds on the original story rather than replacing it. Fan-favourites Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet receive expanded storylines, and a brand-new scene between Edward and his wife Caroline deepens the saga's emotional spine. Original lead writer Darby McDevitt penned the new material, with Brian Tyler returning to score it.
"What if?" rifts
The present-day Abstergo sequences of 2013 are gone. In their place are narrative "What if?" rifts — in-world detours that reframe the Animus conceit with more intrigue and less office desk. It keeps the meta-story present without breaking the pirate fantasy.
