How to Complete Every Templar Hunt and Find All Keys in Black Flag Resynced

A hooded pirate assassin overlooking a heavily guarded colonial courtyard at night in Havana.

One of the most satisfying side activities in the Caribbean remains fully intact—and significantly overhauled—in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Deep inside the manor at Great Inagua sits an ornate cage holding the Templar Armor. This outfit is not merely a cosmetic visual swap; it offers distinct defensive properties heavily tailored for the modern Anvil engine’s combat mechanics. To claim it, Edward Kenway must collect five specific Templar Keys.

While you will pocket the first key automatically as you progress through the main story, the remaining four demand some actual legwork. They are hidden behind multi-part Templar Hunt questlines scattered across the West Indies. Because the developers at Ubisoft Singapore rebuilt the game without relying on the 2013 source code, these side missions play out quite differently than veterans might remember. Stealth sequences have been completely restructured to remove archaic instant-fail states, and the enemy AI behaves far more aggressively when you break cover.

Here is exactly how to track down Opia Apito, Rhona Dinsmore, Anto, and Vance Travers, complete their questlines, and claim the armor.

Preparation and General Mechanics

Before hunting down these targets, it pays to understand how the mechanical shifts in the remake impact these specific missions. The original 2013 missions often forced players into rigid pathways. The new reworked classic missions philosophy means you have much more freedom to approach targets, but you also face fiercer, more reactive opposition.

First, heavily invest in your blowpipe upgrades early. Because the updated AI reacts to noise and line-of-sight disturbances realistically, the sleep and berserk darts are your best options for clearing heavily guarded courtyards without triggering an open colonial conflict.

Second, utilize the revamped traversal controls. Resynced distinctly separates the “Parkour Down” input from the standard “Crouch” toggle. Community testers and modders have praised this specific separation, as it eliminates the old frustration of accidentally dropping into a crouch when you merely wanted to descend a wall. Get comfortable with holding the dedicated parkour down button during the tailing sections of these hunts; it allows you to drop from rooftops to balconies smoothly while keeping your profile strictly out of sight.

Lastly, make sure the Jackdaw has at least moderate hull and broadside cannon upgrades. One of the hunts forces you into a naval skirmish, and you do not want to be caught sailing a fragile ship against heavily armored Templar galleons.

The First Key: Julien du Casse

You do not need to scour the map for the initial key. It is seamlessly integrated into Sequence 4 of the main campaign narrative. After Edward successfully orchestrates the assassination of Julien du Casse and establishes a foothold, the game formally introduces you to the Great Inagua upgrades and the hideout itself. Looting du Casse provides the first key, triggering the appearance of the Templar Assassin icons on your world map.

Key 2: Opia Apito (Cayman Sound)

The Taino Assassin, Opia Apito, commands a questline that rigorously tests your hunting and ranged tracking skills. You initially encounter her at the Cayman Sound map marker.

The Taino Assassin Opia challenges Edward to a hunting competition. You must skin more animals than she does within a strict time limit. Forget chasing the wildlife through the dense brush on foot. The updated foliage physics make tracking visually impressive but mechanically difficult. Instead, equip your pistols or blowpipe, find a high vantage point on a leaning tree, and shoot the targets from above before jumping down to skin them.

Templar Ships This second phase pushes you off the islands. You must locate and disable a specific Templar vessel. The naval combat relies heavily on your positioning and wind awareness. Use chain shot to destroy their masts, rendering them immobile, then broadside them until you can initiate a boarding sequence to extract information.

Right-Hand Man Returning to land, Opia asks you to tail Marquez’s lieutenant. Stay out of the immediate street level. Stick to the trees and rooftops, maintaining visual contact through your expanded Eagle Vision, which now highlights patrol paths far more clearly.

The Trail of Lucia Marquez The finale takes place on Pinos Isle. Lucia Marquez attempts to flee through a heavily guarded ruin set piece. When Marquez commands her guards to attack, you face a choice. You can engage in open combat, focusing on parrying the heavy brute strikes, or slip away into the brush and pick them off using stealth. Assassinating Marquez ends the questline and grants the second Templar Key.

Key 3: Rhona Dinsmore (Havana)

Rhona Dinsmore runs the Assassin bureau in Havana. Her questline is loud, aggressive, and highly focused on melee skirmishes.

Bureau Under Attack The moment you speak to Rhona, waves of Spanish soldiers storm the gates. This serves as an excellent stress test for your parry timing. You cannot simply spam the attack button against groups anymore. Watch the enemy animations carefully, parry incoming strikes, and prioritize taking down the officers who passively buff the surrounding grunts.

A Thief in the Market A classic chase sequence through the dense streets. A pickpocket steals valuable information, and you must run him down. Utilize the Havana gameplay mechanics, cutting through open windows and sliding over market stalls to intercept him before he vanishes into the crowds.

Arms Race This mission requires Edward to ignite three separate gunpowder reserves across the city. Treating this as a strict stealth operation saves you massive headaches. If you trigger an alarm, the garrison will swarm the powder reserves. Use the rooftops and sleep darts to incapacitate the guards watching the barrels.

Flint’s End The climax involves infiltrating a fortified plaza to assassinate Hilary Flint. With Havana’s increased architectural density, your rooftop approaches are vast. Avoid the riflemen positioned on the higher balconies by dragging them off ledges from below. A clean air assassination on Flint will secure the third Templar Key.

Key 4: Anto (Kingston)

Anto, a Maroon leader operating out of Kingston, enlists Edward to dismantle a Templar operation aimed at enslaving the local population.

The Maroon Assassin You need to eavesdrop on roaming guards to gather intelligence. Eavesdropping in the remake is substantially more forgiving than the original game. If you lose line of sight or bump into a civilian, the mission does not instantly fail. You simply need to regain auditory range before the timer completely expires.

Recruiting Maroons A standard liberation mission. You must move through the district and free captives from their guards. Try to remain completely undetected; triggering alarms here often results in the guards executing the captives before you have the chance to intervene and cross blades with them.

Under Attack Defend Anto’s position from incoming British forces. Similar to Rhona’s defense mission, crowd control is vital. Drop smoke bombs to blind clusters of enemies, execute them quickly, and immediately reload your flintlocks during the brief lulls in combat.

The Commander’s Ruse You must locate and assassinate Kenneth Abraham. The target patrols with an elite bodyguard detail. Your best approach is hiding in the tall sugarcane fields, whistling to isolate his guards one by one. Once Abraham is isolated, secure the kill for the fourth Templar Key.

Key 5: Vance Travers (Nassau)

The final questline occurs in Nassau, dealing with a complex web of betrayal, pirate politics, and family drama.

Oh Brother… A traditional tailing mission tracking Vance through the pirate haven. Utilize the aforementioned dedicated parkour down controls to maintain your elevation without accidentally alerting the guards below. Nassau features many uneven roofs, so maintaining fluid momentum is key to not falling behind.

The Other Brother You must eavesdrop on a tense conversation between Upton and Vance. The path they walk is heavily populated with hostile pirates. Use the crowds to blend in, moving from group to group smoothly as the brothers walk.

Upton’s Sorrow Upton gets himself into trouble at a local tavern. Protect him from a massive bar brawl. Unarmed combat mechanics apply heavily here, allowing you to disarm opponents and use their own momentum against them without drawing steel. Escort him to safety afterward.

Queen of Pirates, King of Fools The ultimate assassination mission requires you to eliminate both Vance Travers and Jing Lang. They are stationed deep within a sprawling swamp encampment. The dense foliage provides excellent cover for stalking. Focus on Vance first, as he frequently patrols the outer perimeter. Jing Lang remains near the center camp. Eliminating her rewards you with the final Templar Key.

Claiming the Templar Armor

With all five keys secured in your inventory, open your map and fast travel back to Great Inagua. Walk up the hill to the manor and interact with the cage in the main hideout room.

In the original release, this armor simply provided a flat 25% damage reduction. The community has reportedly confirmed that in Resynced, the armor maintains a high baseline defense, but also slightly widens your parry window during intense melee encounters. This makes it an incredibly powerful loadout choice for players still adjusting to the stricter, timing-based flow of the modern combat system. Equip it, admire the stunning visual details of the heavy cloth and chainmail under the Anvil engine’s lighting, and take it back out onto the high seas.
