Black Flag Resynced Tavern, Brothel, and Campfire: Which Hideout Service to Build

The short answer

Build the Campfire first if boarding and Kenway’s Fleet are already part of your loop; build the Tavern when you want to hunt Royal Convoys; build the Brothel when free dancers and its combat and sailing benefits match how you play. None of the three replaces ship upgrade tiers, so the Harbormaster still wins when the Jackdaw is the thing holding you back.

These buildings are easy to dismiss as island flavor. Ubisoft gives each a tangible role. The Tavern opens three minigames and lets Edward tip the jar to improve his chance of finding a Royal Convoy. The Brothel makes dancers free to hire and applies benefits to Edward, the Jackdaw, and crew. The Campfire makes drunk pirates free to hire and adds two Fleet slots.

Campfire: the practical boarding choice

The Campfire does two jobs: free hiring for drunk pirates and two additional slots in Edward’s Fleet. That makes it the most broadly useful of this trio for a player who boards ships often. Boarding produces more loot than sinking, but it costs crew through the deck fight. A steady supply of recruits protects the profitable choice from turning into a manpower problem.

The Fleet slots matter once captured ships have real mission roles. Fleet assignments generate passive income, trade goods, and rare activity spawns, but only if you have useful classes and capacity to keep them. Two more slots are not glamorous; they are compounding value. Read Kenway’s Fleet explained before treating every captured hull as a keeper.

Tavern: build it for a convoy plan

The Tavern provides three minigames, but its strategic benefit is the tip jar: paying into it increases the chance of finding a Royal Convoy on open water. This makes it a deliberate hunting upgrade, not a generic income building.

Build the Tavern when you intend to look for convoy targets and can survive the resulting naval pressure. Do not build it merely because you enjoy the atmosphere, then wonder why the resource return feels abstract. Its value rises with a concrete route: prepare the Jackdaw, know what resources you need, use the tip jar, and take the right convoy when it appears.

If Pirate Hunters are already disrupting travel, clear that issue first. More high-value opportunities are not helpful when every voyage starts with a damaged hull and a pursuit. See Naval Wanted and Pirate Hunters for the reset options.

Brothel: benefits, not a universal first pick

The Brothel makes dancers free to hire and applies a number of combat and sailing benefits to Edward, the Jackdaw, and its crew. Ubisoft confirms the benefit categories but does not publish a complete numerical breakdown in the source material, so this guide will not invent percentages or claim an exact best build.

Its value is situational but real. Players who use social stealth, move frequently through populated spaces, and sail constantly have more chances to benefit. Players currently blocked by ship tier, weapon restocking, or cargo capacity should spend elsewhere first. A passive benefit is only valuable when the underlying route survives long enough to use it.

A simple choice table

Your goalBest buildingWhy
Replace crew after frequent boardings and expand Fleet capacityCampfireFree drunk-pirate recruits plus two Fleet slots.
Seek Royal Convoys on purposeTavernThe tip jar raises the chance of finding one.
Use dancers and want broad combat/sailing benefitsBrothelIt makes dancers free and benefits Edward, ship, and crew.
Unlock stronger Jackdaw upgradesHarbormasterThese three cannot replace ship tier progression.

The table should prevent a familiar mistake: treating every building as a linear upgrade tree. Great Inagua is a toolbox. Pick the tool that changes your next route.

The efficient hideout rhythm

Return to Great Inagua after a defined outing, not just whenever cash appears. Board ships when you need materials or Fleet capacity; visit the Campfire if crew losses or slots are the bottleneck. Plan a convoy trip when Tavern investment supports it. Use the Brothel when its benefits suit a sustained campaign rather than a one-off purchase. Then route the remaining resources into the Harbormaster or General Store according to the next practical block.

This keeps the hideout from becoming a collection of passive bonuses you cannot remember. Each building should have a sentence attached to it: Campfire supports boarding and Fleet growth; Tavern supports convoy hunting; Brothel supports social and sailing play. If the sentence does not describe what you are doing next, save the materials.

The verdict

Campfire is the best broad investment for active boarders and Fleet players. Tavern is a specialist upgrade for Royal Convoy hunters. Brothel is a legitimate benefit package for a playstyle that uses dancers and spends time both on land and sea. Pick the service that turns the next voyage into a better voyage, then let the island grow around that decision.
